CWS Christmas Gift Appeal

Congregations are encouraged to give strong support to this years Christian World Service (CWS) Christmas Gift Appeal.

Last year's appeal raised $500,000 enabling miracles to happen in different parts of the world. In Sudan, women from conflicting tribes now work together for peace, In India mothers who joined a dairy cooperative are using income from milk to pay for their childrens education.

The theme of this years appeal is "Women at Work" to highlight the fact that &0% of the 1.3 billion people who live in absolute poverty are women

Projects supported by CWS

Increase the income of women through establishing cooperatives, loan and saving schemes.

Improve the nutrition of families through home gardens and sustainable agricultural methods

Improve the position of women in their families and communities through education, programmes against violence and leadership programmes

Joke Book from Buller

"God has brought laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me." (Genesis 21; 6)

Buller Union Parish are publishing a joke book that they are offereing for sale. The book is a collection of funny stories and sayings for people to share - especially those who have to make a public speech now and then.

The Book is called "AND SARAH SAID...." and will be available before Christmas

Cost of the book will be $8 plus $1 postage and packaging and it can be ordered from Mrs I Garvey, 23 Brougham St, Westport

New Zealand Turkey Network Conference

Theme: mobilising local churches for mission. Dates: Friday 15 November - Sunday 17 November Venue: Northcross Community Church, Browns Bay, Auckland.

The New Zealand Turkey Network was started two years ago to help create links between people with an interest in Turkey. It is made up of individuals, local churches and missions' agencies working together in partnership.

The Networks goals are-

To provide information about mobilising into Turkey for short and long-term service.

To raise awareness of Turkey and interest amongst New Zealanders.

To build relationships between individuals, local churches and missions' agencies that have an interest in Turkey.

To provide information that can encourage prayer.
