New Churches Broadcasting Commission Project

The Churches' Broadcasting Commission, an ecumenical body concerned with quality religious and public broadcasting in New Zealand, has initiated a project to develop a discussion guide on censorship and freedom of speech issues in the changing media world.

We would like your feedback on a number of issues to assist in framing this discussion guide. We have developed an online questionnaire to capture your responses to a number of questions.
Online Questionnaire

Please pass this message onto your students, colleagues, parishioners, friends and relations. We'd like as wide a range of views as possible from the full breadth of the New Zealand Christian community.

We would like responses by the end of May 2003.

Any questions about this project should be directed to Richard Davis

Courses with EIDTS

The Ecumenical Institute of Distance Theological Studies has two courses commencing in the coming weeks. Both courses will begin with a Residential School to be held in Christchurch and will be followed by a distance (i.e. home) study course of 6 or 12 months. The fee for each course is $300 which includes the cost of the Residential School (accommodation and tutoring included)!!!

"Introduction to Pastoral Theology" is a course that has been written and will be tutored by the Rev Dr Mary Caygill of Auckland. It commences with a Residential School from 21 - 23 May (inclusive). This course is open to all who may be interested in the subject. The distance work may be completed either as a 6 months or 12 months commitment.

"Theologies of the Hebrew Scriptures" is a new course that has been written by the Rev Dr Keith Carley of Auckland and will be tutored by Dr Carley. The course assumes that the students have already studied an Old Testament Introduction course or its equivalent. It approaches the subject from a New Zealand perspective and looks at the theologies of von Rad, Walter Eichrodt, Samuel Terrien, William Bellinger, Phyllis Trible and Walter Brueggeman as well as other writers and includes a section on Jewish understandings as well as making links to the New Testament. This course will commence with a Residential School from 30 June to 2 July and will involve six months distance work.

For further information or enrolment contact the Academic Registrar, EIDTS, P.O.Box 12 286 Christchurch. Freephone 0800 667 969.
