Faith Community Nursing
The Ministry of Faith Community Nurses is gathering momentum across New Zealand and many exciting developments are taking place. Many parishes are catching the vision of how having a nurse within their staff team can have positive effects on the spiritual, physical and psychological health of both the congregation and the community as well as having many outreach possibilities.
With changes in the nursing legislation the need for programmes of education and training for faith community (parish nurses) is paramount so that they can be recognised as a speciality of nursing as well as being suitably equipped to provide high quality nursing care.
A training course is to be held in Nelson from 2 -5 July 2003. Anyone interested can register with details available from Elaine Tyrrell on email etyrrell(at)xtra.co.nz or on Ph 03 548 1008.
After a previous training session a board was set up to monitor progress and to co-ordinate the increasing number of people involved. If you or someone you know is working in this area or is starting out, you are very welcome to contact the Board via Margaret Birtles on m.a.birtles(at)xtra.co.nz.
Mission Resource Team Support
Recently we farewelled Janice Hopkins who had worked with the Mission Resource staff for the last 13 years. Her wealth of knowledge of the Church and her excellent secretarial skills are going to be badly missed. Janice has gone to work at Wellington Hospital in the Department of Urology and we wish her well in her new job. However we are very pleased to have help from Jan Jones who has a wide knowledge and understanding of the Anglican church, being married to a Anglican priest , as well as some years as a staff member of the Anglican Christian Education Department. Jan is finding it very interesting to be working in the Presbyterian ethos.
Depending on which day you phone, you will either get an answer from Jan, Lynne Smith or Verity Doak. We will have someone in the MRT office each day and hope to be able to either answer your queries or direct them on to the appropriate person.
Resources on the Web Site
Remember there is a wide variety of resources available on the web site including preaching notes and prayers and the Year Book and the Book of Order. It is a church wide resource so please remember to pass the information on to any others in the parish who might be interested. in any of the material available but do not know how to access it.
We are planning to make the lectionary readings available on the web site later this year for the new lectionary year starting Advent 2003.
All these resources contain crucial information for anyone working with people in the parish or wider community.
