Overture 12

Repairs and Maintenance

At Glenfield Presbyterian Church, North Shore on 23rd April 2002 the Presbytery of North Shore met and was constituted

Among other things it was moved, seconded and agreed that the following Overture be adopted and transmitted to the General Assembly appointed to meet in Wellington on 22 September 2002

Whereas the inherent strength of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand lies in congregations whose parishes enjoy the protection and safeguards provided by their local Presbytery;

And whereas the Church requires presbyteries to carry out, among many other things, a duty of care and supervision of parishes;

And whereas regulation 172 (d) (iii) requires presbyteries to approve spending of more than $12,000 (currently) on all manner of specified activities to do with buildings; And whereas "renovation" is specified in the regulation and "repairs and maintenance" is not specified;

And whereas there is confusion as to what is or is not renovation or repairs and maintenance

It is hereby overtured

(1) that Book of Order regulation 172 (d) (iii) be amended to read as follows:

(2) "approves plans for any expenditure in connection with the same where the cost exceeds $15,000."

Or that the General Assembly determine otherwise as in its wisdom it shall best consider.

The Presbytery appointed Mr R Ripley and one other to support the overture before the Assembly

Don Stewart

Clerk
