CWS Christmas Gift Appeal
Christian World Service has sermons, presentations and speakers available for services in the build up to Advent and the annual CWS Christmas Appeal.
This year’s theme is food. More than 840 million people, 1 in 7 of the world’s population, do not get enough to eat. CWS’s Christmas Appeal Sermon will tell you why, and highlight the efforts of people around the world to overcome poverty and ensure food for all in their communities. Support the CWS Christmas Gift Appeal to share with the world and help these groups.
Resource kits, speaking notes, overheads and a PowerPoint presentation are available. CWS fieldworkers based in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch are also available for speaking engagements throughout the country.
Contact Mary Cavanagh, Parish Relations Coordinator, for sermon requests.

Friends of Turakina Mäori Girls’ College Association
The association’s main focus remains on increasing our membership and seeking support for our scholarship funds. The college continues to thrive and students are achieving well in academic, sporting and cultural activities. The latest Education Review Office report was very positive and this makes the Friends committee even more desirous of increasing the support we give to the college.
To those of you who are members, thank you for renewing your subscription. To those of you who haven’t yet joined, it’s only $5 a year (to Mrs Lynne Gibbs, 21 Milne Street, Marton). We would also ask you to continue to keep the college and us in your prayers, and to encourage your parishioners to give the college support in any way they can, either directly or by joining Friends. Any support is much appreciated, as evidenced by the comments from the principal and the chaplain at our meetings.
If you would like to know more about what is going on at TMGC you can find out on their website

‘Prayer and the Priesthood of Christ’ by The Rev Dr Graham Redding
In a special offer from Allen and Unwin, Graham Redding’s new book, ‘Prayer and the Priesthood of Christ In the Reformed Tradition’, is available at a 20% discount ($88.00) and free postage if ordered direct from the publishers.
The book traces the idea of the priesthood of Christ, and its effects on Christian worship and prayer, to its origins with the earliest Christians and through the Arian and Apollinarian debates. He then focuses on the Reformed tradition, and the influences of John Calvin, John Knox, John Craig, John McLeod Campbell, William Milligan, Theodore Beza, William Perkins, federal theology and the Westminster tradition, through to the present day.
It is an important history of an important doctrine, but it also shows in a remarkable way how the doctrinal struggles within the church have been reflected in the actual worshipping life of the church and how they continue to be reflected today.
Redding concludes with a number of key affirmations for a Reformed understanding of prayer, and also a critique of some modern tendencies and practices in the church.
Dr Redding is currently Minister at St Johns in the City, Wellington.
