Transition Ministry

Transition Ministry is a specialist interim ministry. It is an intentional ministry with specific goals and timeframe. Its purpose is to help a parish prepare for new directions and new ministry.

Transtion ministers are trained to help parishes deal constructively with change and new developments. Training is available here in New Zealand where we work with the Anglican Church.

The training consists of three phases. Phases 1 and 3 are one-week residential intensives, Monday to Friday. Phase 2 is a fieldwork project carried out at home. There are 4 - 5 months between Phases 1 and 3.

In 2004 Phase 1 will be 26 - 30 April and Phase 3 will be in November and will be in Dunedin.

Training is open to lay people with relevant experience as well as to ministers.

Applications for training can be made to the Personnel Workgroup. Applications should include a 1- 2 page CV outlining relevant ministry training and experience and reasons for wanting to undertake training together with the names and contact details of 2 or 3 referees A subsidy is available to assist with training costs.

The Intentional Interim Ministry training course offered by the Uniteing Church in Australia offers similar training. However, people who do the training with the UCA, if they wish to be approved transition ministers with the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand, need to apply through the Personnel Workgroup. This is part of the protocol we have agreed with the UCA.

Remember to promote the CWS Christmas Gift Appeal during Advent. It is your support that enables CWS to keep supporting projects like the Church of Uganda's heifer programme.

Imagine not being able to provide adequate food for your family. That's the reality for mothers in Uganda where almost half of all infants are malnourished. But CWS's Ugandan partner is responding.

They give heifers to poor families to provide food and income. The milk is a rich source of protein, particularly for children. Nothing is wasted. Surplus milk is sold and the manure is used to fertilise the family's crops such as bananas and vegetables. But the best part of this programme is the "Pass on the Gift" aspect where the first-born heifer is given to another poor family.

Can you follow their lead and pass on your gift?

More appeal envelopes are available from CWS. Ph 0800 74 73 72 or 03 366 9274

Friends of Turakina Maori Girls College

The college has had a very successful year and Friends has been pleased and proud to be able to support it. It has also made us determined to continue our drive for new members and we appreciate your support in this regard.

Recently some members of Friends, the college chaplain, Peka Tautau, and some senior students visited St Andrews in Levin, where they took part in the service and were hosted for morning tea. This was much appreciated, as was the response to our newsletter plea for various materials. The students were delighted to take back to the college a large quantity of native trees, egg cartons, wool, and so forth. Hopefully we will be able to visit other parishes in the future.

Thank you all for your ongoing support and for your efforts in encouraging your parishioners to support us with their prayers and by joining Friends.

Mä te Atua koutou e manaaki, e tiaki i tënei wä, te wä whänau o te Ariki.
(May God bless you all at this time, the time of the Lord's birth.)
