'What can we give to the King? Give to the One who has everything?'

Those of you who were brought up listening to Agapeland tapes (yes, tapes, not cds) may well recognise these words. They inspired the theme for this issue of Fuel: what can we give? All around us, there are answers in abundance to this question. For the next couple of months the media is going to force feed us heaps of gift giving ideas, while our churches and communities will be encouraging us to give time and money to more worthy causes...

Of course all God really wants is ourselves.

Don't know about you though, but at the end of a busy year, the thought of more give-out makes me feel... tired. Which then makes me feel guilty. And then I feel even more tired...

Thank goodness our God is into the business of making all things new, of taking away the tiredness of our days and giving us new life in return.

'Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.' - Luke 6:38

For ages I thought it was Ron Kenoly who came up with these awesome words (turns out it was Jesus...) They're great words though, because they remind us about how giving is a two way thing - and you know, if you're not feeling that give-in-as-you-give-out vibe, then maybe you need to spend an afternoon with God picking daisies under a tree somewhere to balance things a bit.

We're entering the season of Advent. The season of anticipation, of looking forward, towards a new future, a new creation. It is a time of dreaming of how things might be, can be different. It's the season which encourages us to grow a spirit of generosity, a giving vibe, in ourselves and in our world. I hope this issue provides you with some fuel to do just that.

Arohanui,

Mo
