In May a 20 week course will commence on Presbyterian (Reformed) Studies. This course will be tutored by the Rev Dr John Roxborogh and will be delivered via the internet.  The course covers the history, theology and practice of the Presbyterian Church.  It is intended for lay people as well as ordained.

Other courses commencing in June are Introduction to Pastoral Theology which will be tutored by the Rev Dr Mary Caygill and Theologies of the Hebrew Scriptures which will be tutored by the Rev Dr Keith Carley. Both of these courses will commence with three-day residential schools in Auckland and will then be delivered by distance learning.

On the weekend of Friday 4 June (evening) to Monday 7 June (mid-day) Keith Carley will be conducting a Residential School at St John's College, Meadowbank, Auckland on Theologies of the Hebrew Scriptures.

This is open to lay and ordained people.  It will be a good course for lay people who want to learn more about the scriptures and it will be an excellent opportunity for ministers to brush up on their theology of the Old Testament (and earn CMF points!!!!).

The cost is $300 which includes food and shelter as well as the tuition.
This is a bargain !!!!!  -- and a good opportunity !!!!!

The course is being run by the Ecumenical Institute for Distance Theological Studies and can be taken for audit (the residential course alone) or for credit (the residential course plus six months distance study with assignments).

CWS - Don't Dump on Me! Campaign

New Zealanders use over 22 million plastic bags every week. Each plastic bag takes 500 years to break down. Every month New Zealanders throw out enough rubbish to fill a football field 30 stories high. The latest CWS Youth Topics, Don't dump on me, explores the impact of environmental issues on the global community. Designed for use with youth groups, this colourful poster activity programme tackles environmental issues through games,
activities, discussion starters, quizzes and worship material. Activities include:

Bye bye Tuvalu? Guess the contribution of different countries to global warming - which is threatening to wipe out entire Pacific nations

Taking action for the environment: how one group is fighting to protect their drinking water

Waste log: What is YOUR impact on the environment?

Seabed and Foreshore - Background paper

The Auckland-based Ecumenical Coalition for Justice has written a background paper, Talking Points, on what it believes are the main issues for discussion by Church and community groups, when making submissions to the Select Committee on the legislation. This is available through its website www.socialjustice.org.nz.

About the Coalition: The Ecumenical Coalition for Justice was formed in 1999. Members are from the mainline denominations who have been active over the last 25 years on social justice issues, both nationally and internationally. Its initial focus was to promote fair trade policies. It has also produced resources for general elections and on child poverty. A current project on Church and Treaty of which this paper is a part has been funded by major Church aid and justice agencies.
