Nominating Committee

Terms of Reference

To nominate for appointment by the General Assembly, or Council of Assembly acting on behalf of the General Assembly when necessary, members of the Council of Assembly, Policy Groups, Reference Groups, Work Groups and such other bodies as are requested by the General Assembly or Council of Assembly. In doing so the Committee shall have due regard for the required skills and competencies, cultural gifts, and gender, age, geographical, and lay/clergy balance.

To facilitate the nomination of a Moderator-Designate for the General Assembly.

To receive and determine applications for leave of absence from Commissioners during Assembly and determine any adjustment of travel expenses.

To nominate Records Auditors for appointment by the Assembly to examine those records listed in Regulation 381.

1.2This Committee has been working towards the General Assembly and will continue to work during the Assembly to nominate personnel for Council of Assembly, Policy Groups, Reference Groups and Workgroups along with special committees.

2.1In the period since the 2002 General Assembly the Nominating Committee has been involved in appointments to:

2.2Nominating Committee was consulted in the appointment of the following Council of Assembly Task Groups: The Focal Identity Statement Task Group, The Nominating Process Review Task Group, Task Group to review Te Komiti Moana Nui, Task Group to review stipend/remuneration, including the link between Seniority Allowance, Supervision and Continuing Ministry Formation.

2.3People´s time constraints and availability continue to provide difficulties in making nominations of suitably skilled personnel to the various groups.

3.1Nominating Committee was both represented on the Task Group and given opportunity to participate.

 

<typohead type="3">4.Nomination for Moderator Designate</typohead>

 

4.1The process of seeking nominations from the Church resulted in the receipt of nominations for Mrs Mary J. Petersen (1), Mrs Jane Prichard (1), and the Revs Mark Chapman (1), Peter Cheyne (1), Vivian Coleman (1). Graeme D. Munro (1), Christopher J. Nichol (2), Geoffrey Skilton (1), Pamela J. Tankersley (2), Reginald J Weeks (1). The consent of all Nominees was sought. Two nominees not listed above declined nomination and the Rev Christopher J Nichol subsequently withdrew his name from the list of nominees.

4.2Following the circulation of the names of Nominees to Parishes, Presbyteries, Union District Councils and Te Aka Puaho for consideration and recommendation (ref. Book of Order Regulations 174, 348, and Appendix D8) the Assembly Executive Secretary informed the Nominating Committee of the final voting figures, which are contained in the Assembly Executive Secretary´s report (G1).
