Overture 18: Financial Services Department
At St Andrews Uniting Church, Whangarei on 21 June 2004, the Northland Uniting Church Council met and was constituted.

The Council agreed to transmit simpliciter the following overture from the Session of St Andrews Uniting Church, Whangarei, to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand appointed to meet in Christchurch on 19 September 2004.
Whereas the prime agent for mission is the local congregation
And Whereas any national services must serve the local congregation
And Whereas the church lacks confidence in the Financial Services Department of the Presbyterian Church
And Whereas Financial Services is not part of the core business of the Presbyterian Church (mission is)
<typohead type="3">It is hereby overtured that the General Assembly: </typohead>

Move to outsourcing the work done currently by the Financial Services Department, working first with PSDS on this matter and if required seeking tenders for all financial work currently undertaken
This process to begin immediately and the Council of Assembly action this change to be implemented no later than 1 April 2005.

Or that the General Assembly determine otherwise as in its wisdom it shall consider best.
The Uniting Church Council appointed Rev Wayne Matheson to support the overture before the Assembly.
