Overture 22: Mission Resourcing

At St David's Union Parish Carterton at its Executive Meeting on 12 August 2004, the Executive Committee of the Union District Council of the Wairarapa met and was duly constituted, and acted with its powers or urgency given it by the full Council:

The Union District Council Executive Committee agreed to adopt and transmit the following Overture to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand appointed to meet in Christchurch on the 19 – 24 September 2004.

And to transmit the following Memorial to Te Tahi Weteriana O Aotearoa – The Methodist Church of New Zealand, meeting in Conference in Auckland 4 – 10 November 2004.

Whereas it has come to the Council´s notice that both the Methodist and Presbyterian Churches are reviewing Mission Resourcing/Mission Resource areas of their respective Churches life individually and simultaneously

And Whereas both churches have a considerable number of co-operating ventures involving the two churches;

The Union District:

calls on both National Churches´ and their respective Committees and Boards involved, to consider favourably the option of working together and merging these areas of Church work between the two Churches."

Or that the General Assembly and the Methodist Conference determine otherwise as in their wisdom they shall consider best.

The Union District Council appointed Rev Don Biggs to support the overture before the Assembly.
