Appendix H-3: Edict – Vacancy in a Pastoral Charge

(Regulation 217)

It is hereby intimated, in the name of the Presbytery of ......…………............................ that the pastoral charge of this Congregation is now vacant as a result of the (here state the cause, such as, transfer, death, or resignation) of your former minister, the Rev. ................................................... . The office-bearers and members of this Congregation are, therefore, called upon to take steps to consider the vacancy in accordance with the regulations of the Book of Order dealing with filling a vacancy in a charge.

When authority has been given under Regulation 227 for steps to be taken to fill the vacancy before the pastoral tie is dissolved, the edict should be amended to read:

It is hereby intimated, in the name of the Presbytery of ..............…………............. that the pastoral charge of this Congregation will become vacant on (insert date) as a result of the (state cause, such as, transfer, or resignation) of your minister, the Rev.......…………............................... . The office bearers and members of this Congregation are, therefore, called upon to take steps to consider the vacancy in accordance with the regulations of the Book of Order dealing with filling a vacancy in a charge.
