News from CWS
<typohead type="4">Indonesian Earthquake response </typohead>
Action by Churches Together (ACT) International, the emergency network to which Christian World Service(CWS) belongs, released US$500,000 from existing Tsunami funds to respond to the 29 March earthquake in Indonesia. Food aid, tents and other relief items including medical supplies are being distributed to those in need on Nias and Simeuleu Islands. A medical team including three doctors and a nurse are working in and around Gunungsitoli which lost 85 per cent of its buildings. CWS is grateful for those who have given so generously to the tsunami appeal. Over $630,000 has been raised to date, which has been supplemented with government funding. So far all immediate requests of our long term partners in Sri Lanka and India have been met. Additional contributions have been made to the ACT appeal, especially for Indonesia.
Please remember both those whose lives have been devastated and those providing relief in your prayers. For further information: www.cws.org.nz or contact CWS, P O Box 22 652, Christchurch
<typohead type="4">Fair Trade Fortnight </typohead>
Christian World Service is supporting Fair Trade Fortnight from 7-21 May 2005. The purpose of the fortnight is to promote fair trade with Trade Aid shops being a particular focus of activity. CWS is encouraging churches to focus on fair trade in their service on one Sunday in the fortnight – probably the 15th so as not to clash with Mother's Day. Suggested actions, including offering fair trade coffee and tea after the service, and liturgical material are available at www.cws.org.nz or contact gillian.southey(at)cws.org.nz CWS, P O Box 22 652, Christchurch
