Kathryn Grant: PYM Intern 2005
My year as PYM intern has been amazing for so many reasons. I’ve got to meet so many cool people and had my eyes opened up to so many things I had never thought about before. But one of the coolest things hit home when I was preparing to go to Auckland for a few days a little while ago. I was staying with a couple of different people in the PYM crew, all of whom I knew, but felt were more Mo’s friends than mine. I changed my thinking though when Mo said to me, ‘you know that even though you feel like you haven’t gotten to know these people that well yet, they care about you heaps already, and will look out for you, just because you’re part of the PYM crew.’
This made me feel pretty special, knowing that there’s people spread around New Zealand who I might not be best buddies with, but will put me up for the night or go out for coffee with me, just because we belong to the same crew.
If you’re reading this, it’s likely that you belong to the PYM crew – so this blessing is yours as well! (Yay!)
The challenge for me though is to take up the call to go a step further, and share hospitality and care with those who don’t get it and have stopped expecting it – those who get love and care and hospitality the least, and need it the most. So my aim this Christmas is to ‘pay forward’ the blessing. I hope this issue of Fuel inspires you to think about how you might do that where you are this Christmas.
