A short term 'mission experience' can often be a significant and life changing opportunity. Usually they are between one month and one year in length and are volunteer positions that require significant self funding to cover the travel costs. However, as those who have taken up the opportunity to experience life in another culture and context often testify, it is actually an invaluable investment. Of course the investment is not only in the community where you live and work, but in your own faith and personal development as well. It is usual that the 'home' congregation of the volunteer is encouraged to support, both in prayer and contributing towards the cost.
