Introduction Workgroup

The second round of matching takes place on 20th August. Please pray for us, the Ordinands and the Boards of Nomination who have asked us to work on their behalf. At the time of preparing this material four of the six Ordinands who are graduating this year are in conversations with Boards of Nomination. Two Ordinands and any for whom the current conversations do not lead to a call are awaiting the second round of matching.

Nominators need to have parish profiles to the Convener by Friday 15 August.

If a Board misses the deadline for Parish Profiles there is a possibility that we may need additional profiles after that date. Nominators are encouraged to contact the Convener to check on the need for Parish Profiles.

Wipe Out Poverty Week

It's time to get your youth group organised for Christian World Service's Wipe Out Poverty week, 31 August- 6 September.

This is a chance for young people in Aotearoa New Zealand to wipe, wash and clean in their own communities to help people in need overseas. It's simple - just get sponsored or collect donations for the jobs you do. Try washing cars, trucks, buses, pets, pews, preachers, windows, shoes, or each other!

Money raised will support CWS partner groups around the world who are working to overcome poverty and improve lives in their own communities.

Registration kits with fundraising ideas, sponsor forms, a group leaser's activity programme and smocks to keep you dry and get you noticed are available now. Contact Michael at Christian World Service, 03 366 9 274 or youth(at)cws.org.nz

Using a Data Projector in worship?

The programmes for enabling easy changing between songs and message slide shows etc. can be quite expensive. Blockhouse Bay Baptist Church have produced PowerPreview - a programme that, using PowerPoint as a data-base, allows 'pre-viewing' of Microsoft PowerPoint slides on a computer monitor (typically a lap-top) independent of and prior to showing the slides on a data projector. It allows the operator to view slides on the computer monitor separately from the data projector's display. Sounds complicated, but it is easy to operate and yours for only $50 + postage and packaging. (Proceeds go towards missions).

Women's Christian Temperance Union

The New Zealand Women's Christian temperence Union (NZWCTU) are encouraging people to write to their MP's to express concern about a new type of alcoholic drink aimed at young people.

President of the NZWCTU, Molly Aitchison says that the way the so called 'Viagra Pops' are being marketed is likely to increase the likelihood of binge drinking and unsafe sex.

'Praise Be' Top Twenty

With the number of different traditional hymns and contemporary songs being sung in Churches and places of worship throughout the country, Praise Be was interested in finding out from their viewing audience what their favourites are, in order to feature them in a two programme "top twenty" series.

A write-in poll was promoted throughout June asking viewers to list their three favourites and a total of 3111 votes were counted for 603 different hymns. The hymns placed in the second ten will play on 10 August and the top ten on 17 August '03.

Praise Be is hosted by Graeme Thomson and has now been running continuously on TV One on Sunday mornings since 1986. It is 100 per cent funded by NZ On Air and has an extensive video library of over 2600 hymns, recorded from a large variety of New Zealand Choirs, Music Groups and Ecumenical Congregations from throughout the country.
