Eco-congregation
Eco-congregation is an ecumenical programme helping churches make the link between environmental issues and Christian faith, and respond in practical action. Click here for the Eco-congregation website, it has tools to help churches begin to address environmental issues and is suitable for all kinds of churches.
A Rocha
A Rocha is a Christian nature conservation organisation working in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, North and South America, Asia, Australasia. Its projects are frequently cross-cultural in character with community emphasis and focus a on science and research, practical conservation and education. The Alliance of Religions and Conservation
ARC is a secular body that helps the major religions of the world to develop their own environmental programmes, based on their own core teachings, beliefs and practices. ARC was founded in 1995 by HRH Prince Philip and works with 11 major faiths through the key traditions within each faith. Click here for more information<hr>
The Evangelical Environmental Network
The Evangelical Environmental Network (EEN) is a non-profit organization that seeks to educate, inspire, and mobilize Christians in their effort to care for God's creation, to be faithful stewards of God's provisionand to advocate for actions and policies that honor God and protect the environment. World Council of Churches WCC
Climate change affects people all around the world, violent storms, droughts and rising sea levels have devastating consequences on poor and vulnerable communities. This situation requires a response that goes far beyond the Kyoto Protocol. Resources and prayers for caring for Creation here and here
Christian Ecology
Offers insights into ecology and the environment to Christian people and churches, provides Christian insight to the Green movement. Publishes a magazine, Green Christian and ChurchLink, a free twice yearly A4 resource leaflet/poster for any church that requests it. Click here for further information.
EarthCare
EarthCare is a Christian organisation that promotes creation stewardship within the Christian community. It seeks to raise environmental awareness and encourage participation in church and community projects through educational and advisory programs (such as distributing resource materials and helping churches establish creation care ministries).Click here for website.
Eco-Justice
Eco-Justice Ministries is an independent, ecumenical agency that helps churches answer the call to care for all of God's creation, and develop ministries that are faithful, relevant and effective in working toward social justice and environmental sustainability. Theological Studies
An Internet Resource for studying Christian theology. Dedicated to making quality theological material on ecology available world wide, thus providing Bible teachers and Pastors with the training they need to spread the Gospel in their countries. Resources available here.
Operation Noah
Operation Noah is an ecumenical programme that focuses specifically on campaigning on climate change and raising awareness on this issue. The website includes 'Ark in a Box' - a package of resources for churches, find it here.
European Christian Environmental Network
European Christian Environmental Network offers a resource for anyone organising worship, celebration and prayer round the theme of Creation. Liturgical material to celebrate a "Time for Creation" from 1 September to the second Sunday in October. More info here.
The Season of Creation
The Season of Creation promotes the season as an opportunity to celebrate God the Creator and provides liturgies and other resources from around the world. Focuses in worship Christian concern about the way human beings are treating God's Earth. Find them here
Council for World Mission
The Council for World Mission (CWM) is a worldwide community of 31 Christian denominations working as equals with a common commitment to the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Resources here on food crisis and globalisation here.
Christian World Service
CWS has resources on climate change and fair trade. For Pacific people, climate changes impact is advanced. Atolls have disappeared climate refugees have fled. Trade rules are forcing millions into poverty allowing a handful to become rich. Resources here and here.
The Royal Society
An independent scientific academy of the UK & Commonwealth promoting excellence in science. Has an overview of current scientific understanding of climate change to help non-experts understand. Sets out in simple terms where weight of scientific evidence sits, more here
International Rural Churches Association
IRCA is a network of people with a passion for rural communities based on their passion for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Seeks to be an international community of rural Christians and a voice for rural communities worldwide. More here
Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance
Ecumenical advocacy network on global trade. Trade as not an end in itself but as an instrument for human well-being, sustainable communities and economic justice. Has campaign to build a movement within churches to promote trade justice, more here
The Center for Public Justice
Independent, non-partisan organisation devoted to research and civic education. Working outside familiar categories of right and left, conservative and liberal, seeks to help people respond to God's call to do justice. Guidelines on the environment here
Christian Aid
Has campaign to fight climate change; potentially this century's greatest obstacle to ending poverty. Also campaigns on international trade, trade could help millions lift themselves out of poverty but is making poverty worse. Read more here and here
Living Lightly 24:1
A simpler, greener lifestyle commitment which offers a renewed vision of the world and alternative way of living; a virtual Christian community to be part of! It describes itself as ‘not a long list of "dos" and "don'ts", but a journey of discovery, seeking to live with delight and gentleness in God's World’ info here
The John Ray Initiative (JRI)
An educational charity with a vision to bring together scientific and Christian understandings of the environment in a way that can be widely communicated and lead to effective action as responsible stewards, click here for resources
Shrinking the Footprint
Church of England’s national environment campaign. Churches are encouraged to carry out a simple environmental audit to help plan how to reduce their emissions. Offers information, links resources for churches, including the report "Sharing God's Planet: a Christian vision for a sustainable future," here
World Development Movement
Created originally by the churches, WDM has launched the °C Change Campaign to emphasise the responsibility of rich countries for climate change, while poor countries bear the brunt of the impact. WDM's calls on governments to transform economies to reduce carbon emissions, info here
Stop Climate Chaos
A coalition of environmental and international development organisations, women's organisations, activist groups and faith-based campaigns. It aims to build pressure on politicians to act on climate change. Combining with like-minded bodies in other countries it will work to ensure overseas governments do the same, more here
Stop Global Warming
A movement about change as a global community. Learning tools on global warming and practical tips. Asks supporters of sign up and join the Stop Global Warming Virtual March, and become part of the movement to demand leaders freeze and reduce carbon dioxide emissions now. Info here
National
Presbyterian Church Ecological Task Group
Set up by the Council of Assembly in 2006 to develop Biblical response to deepening ecological problems. Seeks to provide congregations with practical guidelines, examine ways Church can reduce CO2 and develop a Declaration of the Care of Creation for Assembly 2008. Interchurch Bioethics Council
The ICBC - Interchurch Bioethics Council (formerly the Interchurch Commission on Genetic Engineering) was set up in 2000 by the Presbyterian, Anglican and Methodist churches. The group has resources on climate change, GM organisms, transgenics and biotechnology. More here.
Ecological Restoration Network
A website dedicated to hundreds of local NZ communities involved in ecological restoration in New Zealand. It contains news, events, opportunities for volunteering, information about native species and ecosystems, weeds and pests. For practical tools to help restoration projects and native plant nurseries click here
Sustainable Future
Sustainable Future is a non-partisan, not-for-profit research organisation specialising in issues affecting New Zealand. Thier vision is to provide relevant and timely information that is complete and well-researched for those interested in exploring New Zealand's long-term future. Click here
Environmental defence society
A not-for-profit environmental advocacy organisation, comprised of resource management professionals committed to improving environmental outcomes. Has had a long and largely successful history of litigating environmentally significant cases. Is involved in providing support for those undertaking research and policy analysis on environmental issues. More here
New Zealand Ecological Society (Inc)
Formed in 1951 to promote the study of ecology and the application of ecological knowledge. The society attempts to encourage ecological research, increased awareness and understanding of ecological principles, promote sound ecological planning and management of the natural and human environment. Development Resource Centre
Dev-Zone (also known as the Development Resource Centre) provides environmental resources and resources that focus on people-centred, sustainable development. Located in Aotearoa New Zealand it has a Knowledge Centre, a bookshop, resource kits on global education and email update bulletins available here
The Ecologic Foundation
Promotes sustainable development. They say they differ from traditional environment groups; they accept there is an important role for groups which highlight problems but their focus is on working toward solutions that integrate environmental, economic and ethical benefits, rather than promoting one at the expense of the others. Greenpeace Aotearoa New Zealand
An independent, not-for-profit global organisation that focuses on threats to NZ’s and the Earth’s biodiversity and environment. Aims to champion environmentally responsible and socially just solutions and promote debate about society's environmental choices. More information here
WWF New Zealand
New Zealand branch of the WWF promotes conservation in New Zealand and promotes positive action to reduce the impacts of climate change. Aims to educate about the importance of managing our precious environment more sustainably. Resources communities in important backyard conservation. Resources here
Anew
An independent network of motivated and concerned New Zealanders who believe sustainability includes the relationship of the environmental, social and economic sectors. The economy serves society and is not an end in itself. Everything is dependent upon a healthy environment. Sustainability is having health and wellbeing in all three sectors, more here
Recovery
Recovery is a trust formed to promote and facilitate the collection, storage and disposal of all ozone depleting substances during the phasing out period. Trust consults with environmental groups and reports to government. Will dispose of unwanted chlorofluorocarbons (old refrigeration and air conditioning). Details here
Sustainability
Govt website for New Zealanders taking up the sustainability challenge. Steps such as switching to eco bulbs, walking to work, and installing insulation can save money, improve fitness and protect our environment.
