Readers' Recommend - Sherri Weinberg

Sherri Weinberg

When Rev Sherri Weinberg arrived at St Paul's - the Presbyterian Church of Devonport, Auckland, last April, it had a regular attendance of about 30 adults and two children.

With faith and energy, Sherri has built up the numbers to over 40 adults and eight children. She has done so by getting involved in North Shore community organizations, being a visible presence with her dog in the streets, and meeting a range of people. She believes in breaking down barriers between church and community, and being inclusive and open-minded.

Sherri recommends 'Remedial Christianity' by Paul Laughlin (Polebridge Press, 2000). Mixing humour with education, Laughlin provides a clear and readable overview of the major religions, including Christianity. "It gives people insights into issues of history and faith, and answers the questions that we often ask ourselves," says Rev Weinberg.

Also recommended is 'The Education of God' by David Bumbaugh (Rising Press, 1994). In this very humorous book, Bumbaugh invites readers to reconsider the relationship between God and the devil.

"The personification of both God and the devil is hilarious and challenges Christianity's traditional and formal views, inviting a light-hearted look at a profound subject," says Sherri.
