Top 10 - Marcelle Orange

Marcelle Orange

Top 10 is a regular column by Mary-Jane Konings where guests pick their favourites in entertainment, media and leisure activities.

Marcelle Orange is the new Regional Youth Director for the North Shore. On Sunday mornings you'll probably find her at Glenfield Presbyterian or possibly at Auckland Hospital, where she is an intensive care nurse.

MJ: What is your all time favourite way to relax and chill out?

Marcelle: Praying and reading my Bible is the best but I really like chilling out with the Church youth group, I am kind of a member by proxy but they're such a great bunch and the leaders are really good at what they do, so it's a good time for me to chill out and be a teenager again for a couple of hours.

MJ: Read any good books lately?

Marcelle: "Loving God" by Charles Colson, it's an oldy but a goody and he has some amazing testimonials, faith building stuff to help us remember what loving God and serving Him is all about.

MJ: Are you listening to someone special at the moment?

Marcelle: Would you believe Keith Green? I read his biography a long time ago - it's called 'No Compromise' and was written by his wife. It is such a powerful message about being sold out for Jesus and really finding His will for your life. Plus the music is just classic, especially 'Jesus commands us to go'.

MJ: Has the explosion of multi-media gadgets (CD, DVD, Playstations, etc) influenced the way you spend your leisure time?

Marcelle: Definitely, my mobile is with me 24-7, my car, my room, and even my alarm clock have CD players. And VCD's and DVDs on the odd occasion have been a good source of entertainment.

MJ: Are you a gym bunny?

Marcelle: I would be a gym bunny but I'm too much of a tight wad and run around the block instead. As far as sport goes, jazz ballet and funk more than anything.

MJ: Where is your fav place to eat?

Marcelle: There's a drive thru' kebab place on Eden Road in Auckland that I think rocks but on occasion you can't beat a classy restaurant where you get to dress up to the nines and enjoy the fellowship of your companions over the best meals available.

MJ: Is there a cultural ritual that you absolutely have to be a part of on a yearly basis?

Marcelle: Parachute - is that cultural? That and Christmas with my family because I have the bomb family and Christmas with them is just the best - but they all have to be there!

MJ: What brings beauty into t your life?

Marcelle: God - I mean look, we've got mountains, sunsets, beaches, rivers, canyons, valleys, flowers, butterflies, what do we have that He hasn't given us?

MJ: So, where is your favourite place to hang with God?

Marcelle: Anywhere quiet! Actually church I guess 'cause I can sit and focus entirely on Him, I don't have to be anywhere, call anyone or do anything but sit there and listen to what He is saying to me.
