New Years Honours
Presbyterians in the New Years Honours list include:
Very Rev Bruce Hansen
very Rev Bruce Hansen: appointed to the Queens Service Order for services to the community.
Bruce has participated in a wide variety of community activities over many years and says his involvement has quite often arisen in connection with his work as a Presbyterian Minister. This is because "I have always seen the church as being involved in the life of the community" he said.
In later years he held positions in the administration of the church nationally and was moderator between 1999 and 2000. He retired from active ministry last year but has recently taken up the position of Director of the Ecumenical Institute of Distance Theological Study.
Rev Brian Williscroft
Rev Brian Williscroft: appointed to the Queens Service Order for services to the community.
Brian has been involved in Presbyterian Support since, as a Sunday School child, he sold tickets to neighbours to help raise money for Presbyterian orphanages. He has been associated with Presbyterian Support in Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Central and Otago and was Chair of Presbyterian Support Southland for 5 years. He has also been involved in Rotary and is a Chaplain of the Order of St John.
Brian is currently co-convenor of the Administration and Finance Policy Group and has held other positions in the national administration of the church.
Gwen Naeve
Gwen Naeve: Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for contributions to the arts and the community.
Gwen has been on several arts councils and boards and has chaired Creative Southland and the Southland Creative Arts Foundation. She has also been a District Councillor and a County Councillor.
"When you live in a small community you either get involved or you vegetate" she said.
Gwen has had close involvement with the Maori Synod of the Presbyterian Church since childhood and has played the organ at the Presbyterian Church on Stewart Island for over 30 years.
