Assembly Preview
Plans are well afoot for this year's General Assembly, which will be held at St Patrick's College, Silverstream in Wellington's Hutt Valley, from 22 to 27 September 2002.
Moderator designate for the Assembly, Rev Michael Thawley said his thoughts on what the Assembly will be about, come from the image of the Church as the body of Christ, with each part being dependent on every other part.
"I am looking for the Assembly to be a good working together and a time when we can better appreciate each other with all the diverse insights and perspectives we have been gifted. We need each other in these challenging times," he said.
Special features of the Assembly will include a Children's Assembly and a pre-Assembly youth gathering. Organisers are also hoping, depending on the outcome of current negotiations, to be able to present something very special for the social event on the Sunday night.
This year's Assembly is being organised with input from a variety of people, in the belief that it should be a "showcase of the church in action". Assembly Co-ordinator Pamela Tankersley said she is confident that this will make it an enthusiastic and creative event.
