Top 10 - Mabel Faletolu
Top 10 is a regular column by Mary-Jane Konings where guests pick their favourites in entertainment, media and leisure activities.
Mabel Aivale Faletolu is an absolutely gorgeous, highly talented up and coming opera star. You may have seen her live and in person on stage in Nuncrackers or the Magic Flute. She was a semi finalist in the Mobil Song Quest last year. Recently from St John's in the City Wellington, since moving to Christchurch she can be found at Trinity Pacific on Sundays.
Mabel and I chatted by email over a few days. This is what I discovered about some of her favourite things.
MJ: So, Mabel, what do you do to relax and unwind?
Mabel: Listen to music, go to the movies, watch a video or catch up with mum and friends in Wellington. Thank God for Telecom's -FAVOURITE PLACES PACKAGE !!!
MJ: What sort of music do you listen to?
Mabel: Classical and opera music, jazz and sometimes rhythm and black music - doesn't make me feel too geeky listening to the REAL stuff!
MJ: Do you have a favourite NZ band?
Mabel: Crowded House! I think it's important to remember your ROOTS!
MJ: Are you reading a good book at the moment?
Mabel: The Life of Margot Fonteyn.
MJ: So, Mabel, where is your favourite place to eat?
Mabel: Dimitris Souvlaki (Colombo Street, Christchurch)
MJ: What is your top food item?
Mabel: Chicken and Falafel Souvlaki. Mmmmmmm!
MJ: Are you a gym bunny or a couch potato?
Mabel: I started out in the beginning of the year as a couch potato but since then my body has gone really hairy, my ears have grown longer and I am going to the gym so I would probably qualify as a gym bunny!
MJ: Do you watch any sport?
Mabel: RUGBY - when I have time.
MJ: What is your favourite live entertainment?
Mabel: Going to theatre whether it be opera, drama, musical. I love theatre!!
MJ: Funny that! So what about worship. Who are you listening to?
Mabel: I like listening to Hillsong and Parachute CD's. They ROCK!
MJ: Where do you feel the presence of God most directly?
Mabel: When I sing in church or singing something spiritual in a concert recital. Music fills me completely with soooo much emotion, especially when I am worshipping and praising God, because he is REAL in me and I am not acting but conveying to others how he affects me and how personal and wonderful it is to be able to share that with others.
ITS ALL GOOD. AMEN!!!
