Glen Innis Ministers' Holiday Home

Glen Innis

Thanks to the generosity of the late James McNutt, ordained ministers of the Presbyterian Church are entitled to a week's free holiday accommodation each year at Glen Innis Station, south east of Waipukurau in Hawke's Bay. Two substantial and well maintained houses are available – the original homestead (now known as James McNutt House) and the former gardener’s cottage (now renamed Maud Hooper House in memory of James' wife). Both are comfortable homes with all modern conveniences. The houses are set in park like grounds in a superb rural landscape. A swimming pool, tennis court and games rooms are available for guests' use.

During the school holidays preference is given to ministers with families. Those travelling from the South Island by ferry are eligible for a subsidy on ferry fares every second year. The subsidy applies to the principal vehicle only and does not cover any towed trailers or caravans.

Glen Innis was gifted to the Presbyterian Church under James McNutt's Will in 1959 to provide a comfortable, relaxing holiday for both active and retired ministers. It is managed by James and Stephanie Carter under the governance of the Church Property Trustees.

James and Stephanie work hard to ensure that both houses are clean and welcoming for each arrival of guests. It is appreciated when the houses are left in a clean and tidy condition by departing guests. Cleaning materials are provided, but guests need to provide for their personal needs with items such as laundry powder and toilet rolls. Guests also need to bring their own linen and towels. There are a few “emergency” items in the pantry such as tins of fruit, spaghetti or the like. Again, it is appreciated when such items are replenished if used. These little courtesies help to ensure that all Glen Innis guests enjoy a “home away from home” holiday.
