Message from Global Mission: Pray for Vanuatu in the wake of Cyclone Harold

8 April 2020

Cyclone Harold made landfall on Vanuatu at the highest level of Category 5 on Monday 6 April. It has had a strong impact on islands in the northern and central regions.

Photographs and videos have been shared revealing that significant damage has been sustained, but at the time of writing we have been unable to get clear information about the level of damage, and the full extent of damage, on the various islands.

The island of Santo, where the Bush Mission outreach and Talua Theological Training Institute are situated, has been hit hard; as has Paama Island where Highgate congregation has a partnership with a local community, and several other islands where PCANZ teams have been involved in projects.

At this stage it is too early to know the extent of the damage and how PCANZ can help.

Photographs and information will be updated regularly on the Global Mission Facebook page to keep you informed.

Please pray for Vanuatu and the Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu as they deal with the effects of the cyclone, and provide assistance to affected communities in the context of the national state of emergency that is in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
