Rev Nikki Watkin appointed to ministry formation role with Knox Centre

Knox Centre for Ministry and Learning (KCML) is delighted to announce the appointment of Rev Nikki Watkin as Ministry Formation Co-ordinator.

Nikki is a highly experienced parish minister, first serving at Knox Presbyterian Church in Feilding, and for the last 20 years at Kohimarama Presbyterian Church in Auckland. Her Master of Ministry was in Christian education, and was shaped by a strong sense of call to form leaders, explains Steve Taylor, Knox Centre principal, who headed the recruitment team.

Steve observed how Nikki impressed during the interview with her passion for church and for leaders, her in-depth knowledge of the Presbyterian Church and her desire to bring clarity and grace to leaders.

“Nikki will be a wonderful addition to the life of KCML and the wider Presbyterian Church. She presented as a highly effective adult educator, with skills and experience that will translate wonderfully into the intern environment. She already has experience with the internship process through being a mentor minister.

Nikki is happy to join the Knox Centre team.

“I am really excited about this opportunity. I’m looking forward to sharing my love for ministry and to being challenged to keep growing in Christ, as I join the journey with those training for ministry and leadership.”

Staffing gaps at Knox Centre had emerged with the retirement of long-serving team member Kevin Ward in late 2019.

The role was advertised as fixed term out of respect for the ongoing reviews being conducted by Council of Assembly. Fractional appointments from different geographic locations around New Zealand were encouraged, and Nikki’s appointment is part-time (0.3 full time equivalent), and she will continue her ministry at Kohimarama.

This is half of the appointment process and a further announcement is expected, says Steve, who is excited about the partnership between parish, presbytery and national church in the appointment of Nikki to the ministry formation role.

Family is a great source of life and strength for Nikki and she is glad to be walking this journey with her husband Richard and four children, ranging from 11 years to adult.
