You are invited to a Ohope Marae Bicultural Experience 24-26 Oct

Ohope Bicultural Experience
24-26 October 2023, Ohope Marae

Tuesday 3pm to Thursday 1pm

There is no place better to learn about the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand, Te Aka Puaho and their bicultural journey than the beautiful Ōhope Marae at sparking Ōhope Beach

Through a new collaboration between Knox Centre for Ministry and Leadership, Presbyterian Youth Ministries (PYM), and the Theology Programme of the University of Otago (Rev Dr Murray Rae and Rev Dr Wayne Te Kaawa), we are offering a three-day immersion to all interested in hearing and reflecting on our story in Aotearoa. The course will run from 3.00pm on Tuesday 24 to 1pm Thursday 26 October.

Content covered includes:

  • Reflections on the pōwhiri, the whenua and the wharenui
  • Our Presbyterian Story: From Māori Mission to Te Aka Puaho
  • (including Māori prophets and evangelists)
  • Exploring Te Tiriti
  • Te Hakari (Lord’s Supper)

Quality time has been set aside to process and reflect on how what this means in your area of ministry.

Participant fee is $159 per person which covers our use of the marae and catering.  There is no additional charge if you would like to be accommodated on the Marae, but there are ample off-site alternatives, including at the Ōhope Christian Camp, which is close to the Marae.

We offer a discounted fee of $99 for students, unwaged and people employed part-time. Travel costs are also up to the participants.
